ONE way to God

Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. 2 I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. 3 For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law. 4 For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.  Romans 10:1-4 NLT

God has a way of making people right with himself.  We can’t just come to God our own way but we need to come His way.  We need to humble ourselves and submit to his ways. There are many teachings out there about many roads lead to God but God has one way of making people right in his sight and it is by believing in His son, Jesus.

For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God (righteous NKJV), and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.  Romans 10:9 NLT

Righteousness comes by believing in your heart.  When we believe in Jesus as the sacrifice for our sins we become righteous in Gods eyes or we become right with God.  We are in right standing with God because of everything Jesus did not because of our works good or bad.  There are many roads to the mall, the grocery store and your house BUT there is only a narrow path that leads to God, creator of heaven and earth, and this is Jesus Christ.

Experience?

No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.   Alcoholics Anonymous pg 84

But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.    Psalm 3:3 NLT

Father I thank you for my sobriety.  I thank you Lord for freedom from the guilt and shame of my past.  I no longer have to walk with my head hung in shame because you are the lifter of my head.  Thank you for this new life that you’ve given to me.  Show me how I can use my testimony to help others and show them your love and forgiveness.  I thank you Lord for helping to know that I am no longer useless and worthless but I am your very own precious child.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Our Spiritual Toolkit–God’s Armor

When, therefore, we were approached by those in whom the problem had been solved, there was nothing left for us but to pick up the simple kit of spiritual tools laid at our feet.

Alcoholics Anonymous pg 25

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.  Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.  For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. Ephesians 6:13-18 NLT

Father I thank you for this day.  I thank you that you have given me all the spiritual tools I need to live in this earth victoriously.    I pray that I will not struggle but intuitively know how to handle each situation that arises today.  Show me the tools that I will need in each situation.  I thank you that no matter what the situation I will always be victorious because of Christ Jesus.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Faith or Fear?

The verdict of the ages is that faith means courage. All men of faith have courage. They trust their God. We never apologize for God. Instead we let Him demonstrate, through us, what He can do. We ask Him to remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At once, we commence to outgrow fear. Alcoholics Anonymous pg 68

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:35-40 NIV

Father God, thank you for this day. Forgive me for the times when I’ve given into fear by looking at the wind and waves around me instead of looking to you. Thank you for your love and tender mercy. Father, I cast all my cares on you today knowing that you care for me. I pray that you would direct my attention to what you would have me be and do today.  I thank you Lord that you have not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.  In Jesus Name, Amen

Complacency?

It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and rest on our laurels. We are headed for trouble if we do, for alcohol is a subtle foe. We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.   Alcoholics Anonymous pg 85

For simpletons turn away from me—to death.  Fools are destroyed by their own complacency. But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”  Proverbs 1:32-33 NLT

Father God, I thank you that your mercies are new everyday and today is a new day to seek after your will and plan for my life.  I pray, Father, that I will resist the temptation to become complacent and rest on my laurels.  For your word says that my complacency can destroy my life.   I pray that as I listen to you I will live in peace and be untroubled by fear of harm.  I ask you for knowledge and wisdom to carry out your plan today.   In Jesus Name, Amen.

No More Guilt!

Showing others who suffer how we were given help is the very thing which makes life seem so worth while to us now. Cling to the thought that, in God’s hands, the dark past is the greatest possession you have — the key to life and happiness for others. With it you can avert death and misery for them.    Alcoholics Anonymous  pg 124

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source  of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles  so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.                 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

Praise you Father!  Thank you for being my comforter.  I thank you Father for my testimony that I no longer have to walk in shame.  Help me to show others how they can be set free. Grant me grace that I may show others the same comfort you have shown me. Use me Lord, to be a light shining in the darkness.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Trust God

We trust infinite God rather than our finite selves.           Alcoholics Anonymous pg 68

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.      Hebrews 13:8  NKJV

Lord God you are so worthy to be praised.  Thank you for my sobriety and serenity.  I thank you that though life may change you remain the same.  I can always trust you to be there and your word is always true and up to date.  I thank you for your faithfulness to me and your divine answer to every challenge I encounter.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
