Out with the Old; In with the New

Then they outlined the spiritual answer and program of action which a hundred of them had followed successfully. Though I had been only a nominal churchman, their proposals were not, intellectually, hard to swallow. But the program of action, though entirely sensible, was pretty drastic. It meant I would have to throw several lifelong conceptions out of the window. That was not easy.  Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.  Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.  Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.  Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT

Lord, I thank you for my sobriety.  Thank you for relieving me of the obsession and compulsion to drink.  I thank you for changing my desires and creating in me new attitudes towards you and my fellows.  Help me to remember that I have a new nature and you have created me to be like you.  I pray Father that I will immediately recoil and throw away any old thoughts or behaviors that try to come up and rule in my life today.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
