Freedom

Men and women drink essentially because they like the effect produced by alcohol. The sensation is so elusive that, while they admit it is injurious, they cannot after a time differentiate the true from the false. To them, their alcoholic life seems the only normal one. They are restless, irritable and discontented, unless they can again experience the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks-drinks which they see others taking with impunity. After they have succumbed to the desire again, as so many do, and the phenomenon of craving develops, they pass through the well-known stages of a spree, emerging remorseful, with a firm resolution not to drink again. This is repeated over and over, and unless this person can experience an entire psychic change there is very little hope of his recovery.

Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates,  you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.  For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.   Romans 8:12-14 NLT

Father, I thank you for setting me free.  I thank you Lord that today I have joy, and peace and I’m no longer restless because you fill my life with the fullness of your love. I’m so thankful that greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.  Father, I thank you today that I don’t have to follow the dictates of my flesh but I follow the leading of your Spirit and do those things that are pleasing to you.   In Jesus Name, Amen.

  1. Practicing the 12 steps gave me a track to run on in order to apply scriptures like this to my life. Not sure why I needed the steps to do this or what the alternative was, but glad something worked. Life was not work out previously.

    God Bless. Ciao. Chaz

    • I can relate Chaz. Practicing the 12 steps and putting the big book to work in my life actually paved the way for me to be able to read and apply the Bible to my life.
