The Greatest Gift

For years I was taught the story about Jesus’ birth and though it was amazing to me, I didn’t really know how Jesus impacted my life.  Today, I know.  God loved us so much that He sent Jesus into the world to be our Saviour.   Love came down from heaven for all people.  Christmas is about receiving Jesus as the Father’s gift to us by believing in Him.  Celebrating Gods saving grace and love through Jesus Christ his Son.  The angels were rejoicing as they told the shepards the good news.  Let’s rejoice and celebrate!!  Jesus is the Greatest Gift.  Share the gift of Jesus with someone today.  Let them know how deeply loved they are and the gift that God has given to ALL people.

I pray that you will know the love of Father God and Jesus in a new and deeper way this Christmas.  May you feel his presence and know His love for you is deeper than you or I could ever imagine.

In Gods Goodness,

Cheryl

What’s in your Toolbox?

When, therefore, we were approached by those in whom the problem had been solved, there was nothing left for us but to pick up the simple kit of spiritual tools laid at our feet.   Alcoholics Anonymous pg 25

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.  Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.  For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. Ephesians 6:13-18 NLT

Father I thank you for this day.  I thank you that you have given me all the spiritual tools I need to live in this earth victoriously.    I pray that I will not struggle but intuitively know how to handle each situation that arises today.  Show me the tools that I will need in each situation.  I thank you that no matter what the situation I will always be victorious because of Christ Jesus.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

When we come into the program  we are given a toolbox and slowly learn to fill it up.  At first we get phone numbers, meeting schedules and the AA books.  As we continue to go to meetings, we find a sponsor, we start a relationship with God, we learn to work and live the steps and our toolbox becomes filled.  Now we learn to apply our tools to the issues of life and as we use these tools they remain sharp and ready to use.  We cannot become complacent or our tools will become dusty and rusty and won’t work very well.  We have been given a tool for everything we face.  If we aren’t sure which to use, We call upon God to guide us for He is the master Power tool.

To Love Unconditionally

Patience, tolerance, understanding and love are the watchwords. Show him these things in yourself and they will be reflected back to you from him. Live and let live is the rule. If you both show a willingness to remedy your own defects, there will be little need to criticize each other.  Alcoholics Anonymous  pg 118

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in him.  God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.   1 John 4:16  NLT

Father help me to love unconditionally.  You said in your word that we reap what we sow.  I pray Father that I would sow words and deeds of love and that I will reap a harvest of love from others.     In Jesus Name, Amen.

To Help and Not to Judge

Most of us sense that real tolerance of other people’s shortcomings and viewpoints and a respect for their opinions are attitudes which make us more useful to others. Our very lives, as ex-problem drinkers, depend upon our constant thought of others and how we may help meet their needs.    Alcoholics Anonymous 19-20

So be careful not to jump to conclusions before the Lord returns as to whether or not someone is faithful. When the Lord comes, he will bring our deepest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. And then God will give to everyone whatever praise is due.     1 Corinthians 4:5 NLT

Lord, I thank you for my sobriety and life today.  Thank you for bringing me to this better place.  Help me to remember that I am not called to judge others but I am called to help others.  You sent Jesus into the world to save it and not condemn it.  Help me to be more like Jesus.      In Jesus Name,  Amen.

Way of Life

This thought brings us to Step Ten, which suggests we continue to take personal inventory and continue to set right any new mistakes as we go along.  We vigorously commenced this way of living as we cleaned up the past.  Alcoholics Anonymous pg 84

Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.  Let your conversation be gracious and attractive  so that you will have the right response for everyone.  Colossians 4:5-6 NLT

Father God I thank you for this day that you have made and for this new way of life that you’ve given to me.  Father help me to live today according to your word and your will. I pray Father that you would season my speech with grace that everything I say will be encouraging to those I speak to. I thank you for the wisdom that you give and for the ability to rely on you and have the right response for everyone today.  In Jesus Name,

The Blessing of the Lord maketh Rich

The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.  Proverbs 22:10

We have all heard about people believing in different get rich quick schemes or having dreams of winning the lottery.  I’ve read about some lottery winners who won millions of dollars but are now bankrupt.  People seem to be disillusioned into thinking that the money is the answer.  If I just had more money then everything would be fine….If I could just pay my bills everything would be fine.  I remember one time being right in the middle of a job when my printer broke and I couldn’t complete the job without it.  I frantically started calling around trying to find the exact same printer.  When I called a certain store the man on the phone began to minister to me.  He told me that the printer wasn’t my problem and began to quote Psalm 23 to me over the phone and told me that I needed the Lord to restore my soul.  I was stunned. I knew that this man could probably lose his job for talking scripture to me so I listened to him intently.  I’m very grateful that this man obeyed and talked to me about God being our shepherd and leading us beside peaceful streams and restoring our souls.  I was so caught up in panic and trying to get the job done that I wasn’t trusting in God and seeking Him for answers or peace.  Many people do this today and get so caught up in trying to get and make money that they forget about the Lord.

This scripture tells us that the BLESSING of the Lord makes a person rich and He adds no sorrow with it.  His blessing on our lives will cause us to prosper and there will be no sorrow, or panic or problems with it.  When I think about winning the lottery, I think about all the sorrows that come with the money.  Learning how to manage it and trying to deal with people who want it and on and on… I think is it really worth it?  I don’t believe that money grows on trees or that money will fall from heaven to me. I believe what God say in the scriptures and that He will cause everything I set my hand to to prosper.   By spending time with Him asking for direction in all my affairs, He has led me into green lush pastures.   The Bible says that the hand of the diligent maketh rich.  I do my part by setting my hands to the work God has given me and the scriptures say that He delights in my prosperity.  I want the Blessing of the Lord.  The blessing will cause me to come into the money and there will be no sorrow or headaches with it. What about you?

Someday

The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death.  Alcoholics Anonymous pg 30

Don’t be misled. Remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it. You will always reap what you sow! Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.    Galatians 6:7-9  NLT

Father God, I thank you for restoring me to sanity and rescuing me from death.  Help me to not get tired of doing what is right.  I pray for the strength and courage to not quit and I thank you for all the blessings I have and will reap.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
