For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
I went on vacation to see the ever popular Grand Canyon this spring. I’d seen pictures and I’d heard people’s views but nothing is like experiencing it firsthand. Wow! I’d never seen anything this large or expansive. At the south rim we could drive 26 miles to different view points and look out, every view point was equally as breathtaking. We took a 2 mile walk around the south rim and I couldn’t even imagine taking a hike down into the canyon. I can see how easy it would be to get lost in the expanse of the canyon..many rims, many ledges, many roads. To me this seemed absolutely beautiful and beyond what I could comprehend or express here in words. To me this was a Masterpiece. A masterpiece that could only be designed by God himself. Who could have decided the right colors to use or the right shape of rock or how high to place the rims or to be able to shine the sun just right to create the perfect sunset and sunrise. God is sooo good and I found myself just thanking him for the opportunity to see such a wonderful work of art by Him. Then I was reminded of Ephesians 2:10.
I may think the Grand Canyon is a masterpiece but according to God, WE are His masterpiece. Wow! That is seemingly beyond my comprehension. How can God say that WE are His masterpiece? What about all our imperfections? How can God see that as a masterpiece? We need to learn how to look at ourselves through the eyes of God instead of through our eyes and the eyes of our peers.
We were formed by God. He sees all the beautiful parts of us that He designed. Psalm 139 says that He made our inward parts and watched as we took shape. He made us as a precious treasure. Every day of our lives was recorded in His book and his thoughts about us are precious. Imagine instead of having a picture of the Grand Canyon on His wall He has His walls decorated with our pictures. OF all creation He said WE are His masterpiece. He created the beauty of this world for us His Master creation. To Him, nothing compares to his love for us. He loves us so much that he created these wonderful things for us to look at. He looks at us with the same awe that we look at His creation such as the Grand Canyon.
We must know that just as the Grand Canyon is breathtaking to us, that WE are absolutely breathtaking to God.
