Safety and Peace in the midst of turmoil

Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point. We asked His protection and care with complete abandon. Alcoholics Anonymous pg 59

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare of the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him. Psalm 91:1-2 NLT

Lord, I thank you for all the provisions you have made for me. Thank you for lighting my path and leading me along. You are my place of safety and my peace in the midst of turmoil. Help me to rest in your presence. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Who do you represent?

All across our nation people stand as representatives for other people or institutions.  The House of Representatives for example represent the people of the state they serve.  An employee stands as a representative of the company who employs them.  A club member represents the club as a whole.  On a more personal level a family member represents their family and so on.  Either we represent well and make what we represent attractive to others or we push people away from whom or what we represent.  When people see your life and what God has done for you do they want to know the God that you serve?  Do we represent him well and attract others to Him?

When we say we are a Christian we are representing Jesus Christ in all His fullness.  We are His ambassadors in the earth.  Our lives become living epistles for others to see.   In Mark 5, Jesus healed a man possessed by many evil spirits.  When Jesus went to leave the man that was healed begged Jesus to let him come too.

“But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.”’ Mark 5:19 NLT

The man was grateful and wanted to follow the Lord and be with Him but was told to go and share his testimony with others so they might believe.  He was to represent the Lord Jesus and tell of His goodness. This is where I found myself in scripture. When I gave my heart to the Lord, he spoke these scriptures to me.  I am to tell everything the Lord has done and tell how merciful he has been to me.

In John 4, Jesus had a conversation with a Samaritan woman.

The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” So the people came streaming from the village to see him. John 4:28-20 NLT   Her testimony caused the villagers to ask Jesus to stay with them and He did for two days.   In verse 42: Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.”    Her testimony got them interested in hearing more and they made a decision to put their trust in Him also.

Our lives should attract people to God.  Our testimony should draw others to want to have a personal relationship with Him.  How we handle situations in our lives will determine how well we represent the King of Kings.  A smart retort or an unkind tirade can cause someone who wants to know about our God to look elsewhere.  We are a living witness and everywhere people are watching.  How many times have we heard or said ourselves when we see someone in sin “Look at him…and he says he’s a Christian.”  How quick we can be to pass judgment but Jesus didn’t.  He offered his hand to help them.  Jesus met people where they were and loved them and met their needs.  People are seeking real answers to really hard questions.  They want to see that Christians are really what they say they are.  People are tired of hypocrisy in life and especially in the church.  Jesus is real and His love is real and absolute.  We should show people His love in our lives and make them hunger for more of Him.   Let them see his mercy and forgiveness through our lives.  Let them come to Him for the joy and overflowing abundance that He promises to all believers.

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?  And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?… Romans 10:14-15a NLT

Lets spread the Word! Let’s represent the Lord Jesus well and attract others to Him by the lives we lead.  Let ‘s be the salt of the earth and the light of this world like Jesus said. Let’s let our light so shine that others will see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.

Gods’ Direction and Guidance

In thinking about our day we may face indecision. We may not be able to determine which course to take. Here we ask God for inspiration, an intuitive thought or a decision.  Alcoholics Anonymous pg 86

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.   1 John 2:20 NKJV

Lord, I thank you that I have clarity of mind.  I pray Father God that you would direct my path.  Show me what I need to say and do in every situation that comes my way today.  I thank you for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and I will be quick to hear and obey your leading.  In Jesus Name, Amen

Living Fruitful

 John 15:1-2 NLT

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.

Jesus is the vine.  We are nourished and given life through Him.  God is the gardener that prunes the vine.   When you grow tomatoes you have to break off certain shoots so that the plant will be sturdy.  If there are too many buds on the vine then all the tomatoes will be small but if you trim some of the buds back then the tomatoes will be big and strong because the vine will be nourishing only the buds that are left. The buds that are broken off and fall to the ground are worthless apart from the vine.  They will not produce tomatoes.  Pruning the tomato buds off the vine actually make the vine stronger and able to produce better fruit.

That’s how it is with God.  Sometimes we can have so many vines out there that we aren’t really producing much fruit for the Lord.  It may seem like we are doing lots of things but nothing is really producing.  I have a crepe myrtle tree in my front yard and it really looks lanky.  It has limbs protruding everywhere but when the time to bud comes it looks really bare and not very pretty.  Sometimes that’s how are lives can be and we need to allow God to prune us so that instead of having many unmanageable limbs we will be bearing more fruit.  We will have less limbs and buds but we will have healthy fruit.

God does not put sickness or tragedy on us to prune us.  But have you ever been in a place where it seems like doors are shutting and everything you do is not working.  Pruning..  We need to get the distractions broken off so that our real roots and purpose in life can get watered and nourished by the vine.  Things that we are trying to do in our own strength will not be nourished by the vine because we are severed from him like the broken off tomato buds.  Jesus is the vine and we must stay connected to him or it won’t work out very well.

I pray Father God that you would help me to let go of the extra things in my life that are drawing my attention away from you.  Help me to remember that you are the vine and I draw my nourishment from you and not from this world.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Freedom from Self!

Our actor is self-centered, ego-centric, as people like to call it nowadays. He is like the retired business man who lolls in the Florida sunshine in the winter complaining of the sad state of the nation; the minister who sighs over the sins of the twentieth century; politicians and reformers who are sure all would be Utopia if the rest of the world would only behave; the outlaw safe cracker who thinks society has wronged him; and the alcoholic who has lost all and is locked up. Whatever our protestations, are not most of us concerned with ourselves, our resentments, or our self-pity?      Alcoholics Anonymous pg 62

Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Philippians 2:2-4 NLT

I thank you Lord that you are a loving Father. Forgive me Father for my selfishness. Help me to not focus on myself today.  Free me of the bondage of self that I may reach out to others and share your freedom with them.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

God has GOOD plans for you!

Proof that God has GOOD plans for us!! Both of these scriptures tell us that God has good things in store for us.  Lay hold of these truths and meditate on them.  God has GOOD plans for us.  God is true to His Word.  If He said it, It will come to pass.  Put your faith in God and not in men.  Put aside your plans and reach out for His!

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.  Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
