No more Selfishness!

The unselfishness of these men as we have come to know them the entire absence of profit motive, and their community spirit, is indeed inspiring to one who has labored long and wearily in this alcoholic field.  They believe in themselves, and still more in the Power which pulls chronic alcoholics back from the gates of death.   Alcoholics Anonymous  XXV

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.  Let each of you look out not only for his own interest but also for the interests of others.  Philippians 2:3-4 NKJV

Thank you, Lord for this day.  Thank you, for the opportunity to give back freely what you have given to me.  I pray for divine direction and divine connections today, Father.  Show me how I can serve your kingdom today.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Faith is Action!

Your prospect may belong to a religious denomination. His religious education and training may be far superior to yours. In that case he is going to wonder how you can add anything to what he already knows. But he well be curious to learn why his own convictions have not worked and why yours seem to work so well. He may be an example of the truth that faith alone is insufficient. To be vital, faith must be accompanied by self sacrifice and unselfish, constructive action.  BB pg 93

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,  and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.  Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”  You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.  How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?  James 2:14-20 NLT

Father God, thank you for this day.  I pray Father that I would not just be a hearer of your word but that I would put my faith in action and be a doer of your word.  I pray Father that people would see my faith in you by the good works that I do and they would give you the glory.  I pray that my light will shine brightly today and that I may be a bold witness of your love and goodness.  As you are merciful, may I show mercy.  As you love, may I love.  As you see, may I see also. In Jesus Name, Amen

Seeking God

But there is One who has all power that One is God. May you find Him now!     Alcoholics Anonymous  pg 59

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:13

Father God ,  I thank you that as I draw near to you that you draw near to me.  I thank you Lord for this beautiful day and I thank you Lord that when I found you I found life. I pray Father that I will pause today in times of indecision and seek you with all my heart and I will find the answers and power I need in you.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Take NO offense!

Some of the snags you will encounter are irritation, hurt feelings and resentments.    Alcoholics Anonymous  pg 117

Finally, all of you should be of one mind, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it.  1 Peter 3:8-9 NLT

I thank you, Father God, for choices.  I thank you that today I make a decision to not get offended.  Show me how I can better serve you.  Help me to be kind to those who are unkind.  Show me how to bless those that are not blessing me.  Thank you for your blessing on my life.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

In thinking about our day we may face indecision. We may not be able to determine which course to take. Here we ask God for inspiration, an intuitive thought or a decision.  Alcoholics Anonymous pg 86

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9 NLT

Father I thank you for this day that you have made. Today, I choose to be glad and rejoice. I thank you Father for the ability to make plans. I pray that you would give me wisdom in planning my day. I thank you that at any time of indecision, I can turn to you for guidance and direction and you will show me which way to go. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Complete knowledge of God’s Will

We usually conclude the period of meditation with a prayer that we be shown all through the day what our next step is to be, that we be given whatever we need to take care of such problems.    Alcoholics Anonymous  pg 87

We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy.                                                                   Colossians 1:9-12 NLT

Father God I ask you to give me complete knowledge of your will for my life.  I pray that I will do those things today that honor and please you.  I pray that you will strengthen me so that I will have all the patience and endurance I need and that I will know what my step should be.  I thank you Father for filling me with your joy!  In Jesus Name, Amen.
