Selfishness the Root of the Problem

It’s amazing to see that after years of sobriety people in these rooms can be so easily decieved into believing they are doing just fine.  Their lives are on track, their defects not as glaring but the selfishness is still firmly rooted in them and they don’t see it.  Most of their time is now focused on their new good life and they have tricked their hearts and minds into believing that this is not selfishness but self-love.  Now don’t get me wrong there is a time when we must learn how to love ourselves but this is not what I’m referring to.  What I’m referring to is the lack of selflessness that comes from reaching out to help others out of the alcoholic pit.  It seems that many AA’s are satisfied with their lives after working the steps, making amends and having restored relationships that they forget about the true message of AA.  That its because many people shared sobriety with them that they can now have a restored life. They forget that the message of Alcoholics Anonymous is to be carried to those still suffering.  Their sobriety is maintained at a mediocre level because they lack the joy and faith that comes from working with others.  I have many people tell me that they want what I have but they never get it.  Its because they lack the one thing that I refuse to give up and that is working with others.  I’ve actually had them turn down people and tell them to call me instead.  They aren’t realizing that they are turning down an opportunity for growth and handing it off to me which I gladly accept.  I’m so grateful that people were there to answer the phone when I called.  I’m glad that the meeting was always open and that there was always someone to chair the meetings I attended.  I understand that when I first came in that I need d to accept help and soak it all in but there comes a time in sobriety when we must step up and start giving back.  This is a sign of true maturity, the ability to let go of self so that someone else might be helped.  To continue to be a taker and hang on to our selfish nature is not a sign of spiritual growth.  We grow spiritually when we reach out and help others.    Am I still rooted in selfishness?  Am I still mainly concerned with myself and my life or am I concerned about others and how I may be a blessing to them?

Any lengths?

Reminding ourselves that we have decided to go to any lengths to find a spiritual experience, we ask that we be given strength and direction to do the right thing, no matter what the personal consequences may be.  BB pg 79

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 NLT

Father God, thank you for my sobriety and my life.  Father, I pray that you would give me strength and direction to do the right thing and not shrink back when it gets hard. Help me to remember that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  I thank you Father for the harvest of blessing that is on the way.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

2 Kingdoms and 2 Fathers

~ Where are You?

There are only 2 Kingdoms. The kingdom of God ,which is light, and the Kingdom of darkness ruled by satan.

2 Corinthians 4:3-7

If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. 4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

Scripture clearly states that Satan is the god of this world and he is actively blinding people from seeing the light of Gods Good News. When people are not born again they are wandering in darkness because Satan has blinded their minds to the truth of God. They can’t understand the salvation message of Jesus because their hearts are hardened.

John 8:39-44 (New Living Translation)

39 “Our father is Abraham!” they declared. “No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example.[a] 40 Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. 41 No, you are imitating your real father.” They replied, “We aren’t illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father.” 42 Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. 43 Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! 44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

The world says that all people are children of God. Jesus says there are two fathers and not all are children of God but some are children of their father, the devil. There are two kingdoms and two fathers. If you don’t choose to believe in Jesus then you are by default in the kingdom of satan. You have to take action to come out of his kingdom and that is to be born again and to believe on God’s Son, Jesus. The greatest miracle of all is when God transfers us out of the kingdom of darkness and puts us into the Kingdom of His dear Son.

Colossians 1:12-13

He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,

God wants ALL people to come to Him and be saved. Does that mean everyone will be saved? No. God has given everyone free will and we must choose to believe and put our faith in Jesus.

Ephesians 2:1-2

1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

Before we get born again we are all spiritually dead. When we receive Jesus we awaken unto God and our spirit is renewed and reborn.

Acts 26:15-18

15 “‘Who are you, lord?’ I asked. “And the Lord replied, ‘I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting. 16 Now get to your feet! For I have appeared to you to appoint you as my servant and witness. You are to tell the world what you have seen and what I will show you in the future. 17 And I will rescue you from both your own people and the Gentiles. Yes, I am sending you to the Gentiles 18 to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.’

When Jesus spoke to Paul he told him that God was sending him to open the peoples’ eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from Satans kingdom to Gods kingdom. Notice, He sent Paul to open their eyes. How many people had prayed for our eyes to be opened before we gave our hearts to Jesus. We were walking dead… how did our eyes open? It’s the light of the good News. Jesus is the light. We can pray this for people that we know that aren’t born again.

John 3:18-21

18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.[a]”

People who love the darkness will not come to Jesus because they love the darkness. They like to sin and eat the fruit of it and they know that they can’t do those things if they are in the light. Pray that God will draw people to the light of the Good News about Jesus.

God sent the light of the World, Jesus, to give life to EVERYONE. There are ONLY 2 Kingdoms and only ONE way to heaven. Don’t be deceived by satan into believing that hell is not real. Hell and heaven are real places and we will spend eternity in one of them. The question is where are you? There are 2 Kingdoms and 2 Fathers. Where do you belong? Are you in the right Kingdom? Do you want to change sides?
